Blissful escape

Such a wonderful weekend!  We've been busy since our carriage turned back into a pumpkin, gently, Saturday evening.

We had just entered the freeway when I realized that my camera was still at home.  Hubby was not going to go back, and I agreed.  But we had to have at least one picture for the record, so we bought this at the new huge ferris wheel down by the aquarium, below Pike Place Market.

We checked into our hotel and took the Monorail over to the Seattle Center and wandered around a little.  The old section of amusement park rides and games was replaced a year or two ago, after many proposals, with a Chihuly permanent exhibition.  Dale Chihuly is a Tacoma native and a premier glass artist.

This was something we had walked past before and said, someday.  We decided this was a good 'someday,' we were on holiday and celebrating, and it was gorgeous.  There was such color, and a progression of his styles, also an outdoor garden with exotic foliage and integrated glass pieces.  Hubby said that he understood his body of work better, and he thoroughly enjoyed it.  There was a small theater with video segments, and of the ones we saw, the one in Jerusalem was awe inspiring.  There is a YouTube video, but it's almost an hour long; we saw an excerpt of maybe ten minutes.  A million people saw that installation.

The other highlight was seeing the touring Broadway performance of Sister Act.  They took the set-up of the movie, and ran all sorts of directions with it.  We didn't realize that it had all new music.  The movie had the character of Delores tweaking her show tunes into church songs (sort of), but they were all old familiar things.  None of those was in the stage show.  Here is the song where she first gets the nuns to sing, from the Tony Awards program.  Then it gets silly as they get all sparkled and sequined up, and the gray-haired monsignor has a secret hankering, basically, to be an Elvis impersonator.  The cop who places the endangered witness in the convent had a crush on her in high school in this version, so she has the chance for a worthy love interest--that is, a chance to smarten up--and it ends, after going kind of over the top, with a meaningful climax.  Great fun!

We had a memorable weekend, walked a lot, enjoyed a lot, and came home happily tired.  To our collective fairy godmothers, thank you for the magic.
