Happy Easter!

"Love's redeeming work is done, Aleluia." Here is Hope ,  which is the message indeed.  I wanted another number from this Rob Gardner program, Lamb of God, but only a little snippet with the choir segment, not the intertwined soloists,  is available on youtube. We went to a performance tonight, from a regional choir. I know that the day is nearly over, but it's still Easter, so I am putting this message up for the day.  I have the blog program working again, but the computer is still at the house where, as of last night, we are no longer living.  When the bed moves, home is now the new address.  More on that later; the phone and internet switches over day after tomorrow.  Night, all.

Moving, yikes!

I'm not dead, just swamped.  We  had the first round of helpers last night, then a crew tomorrow morning.  We will have a final  push with our bed, the freezer, and the computer table and all our electronics on a date to be determined, but soon.  So far this is still "the house" and that's the "new" house. The new house does not have any cabinets tall enough for cereal boxes.  Even if  you put the boxes on their sides,  some of them will not fit inside the cupboard doors.  The upper cupboards are only 11 inches deep, and the counters are only 17 inches deep, so those cabinets are only 14 inches interior depth.  There are lots of them, all the way to the ceiling, and I can't reach them.  I have ordered a step stool, the round kind that rolls, but locks when you step onto it and place weight, with a rubberized top.  It is very safe, but I don't think it will be enough.  Obviously, the kitchen dates from when this little ol...

And...we have a lease!

Our application for the rental house was approved, and we have signed the papers.  Now we mobilize the troops and go into high gear.  We get the keys next week, and that gives us two weekends before it's April, when we wanted to be able to list this house.  We are pleased to still be in our ward, and so grateful for all the people who have offered to help.  We will have some adjustments to a smaller space, and I will miss my dishwasher, but this is a good solution to what we need.  If I ever get called to jury duty, I can walk to the courthouse.  I will be able to walk to the library too, right across the street, but it's a pretty steep hill to come back with a load of books, so we'll see.  Wish us luck!

Casting our Lot

This was another one of those lessons that covered what could have been two lessons easily:  the miracle of Isaac's birth and then the commandment to Abraham to offer him up as a sacrifice, and the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah. We started with Lot, Abraham's nephew.  Several things had struck me in reading and rereading.  Lot seemed to be a person who was "mostly there" spiritually.  When Abraham, seeing that there were too many people and livestock to support on the same space, he offered Lot his choice of direction, and his offer was genuine.  He trusted that God would provide for him wherever he ended up, and he welcomed Lot's decision to go in the direction of the Jordan, to the plain where there was water and life would be easier to sustain.  That was naturally where the cities were, because if you're in a desert, water is where people come together. The only trouble was, the city of Sodom was an unrighteous place, to put it mildly.  But ...

House?

Well, I was hoping to be able to post on Wednesday that we had found a rental house.  We did find a rental house, ten blocks from here, 1030 square feet with a full, unfinished basement, and actual closets in it.  We may still get it, but we were supposed to hear back on Wednesday and we have heard nothing, not a peep. I was going to have fun saying that we lost a house once for my birthday, and now got one for Hubby's.  But alas, that little bit of comic cosmic symmetry was not to be.  Once upon a time, we were set to sign an earnest money agreement to buy a small house on contract from friends in the ward who lived next door and had bought this second, identical house a couple of years later as a rental.  Hubby told people in his office that this was happening, and the boss heard about it and called him in.  He was being laid off as of Friday (this was Monday).  He had been hired as an insurance adjuster (he had not passed the bar yet) with the ide...

Sheltered

It was stake conference today, and instead of having two sessions with assignments as to which time, morning or early afternoon, your ward comes, now it's which building as they broadcast from the stake center to the south building which was its own stake center before a boundary division a few years ago.  The audiovisual guy is now a member of our ward and serving as executive secretary, and becoming a good friend of ours--the kind of thing where we've known each other by sight a long time, but not close up.  All I can say is, we missed out before.  He explained that they now use the internet rather than a satellite, but the signal has to go through Salt Lake and then back to the south building; it has about a 30 second delay on that process, and they had a lot of trouble getting this to work well when they did it for the first time six months ago. Even with two sessions, the buildings are full, and the folding chairs are wretched.  Who picks those, anyhow?  ...
