Trust issues

As the boxes pile up again here, because the old house has to be emptied and we're running out of time to go through each of them there, it's time to come back to thinking of other things. Our class is in Exodus now, and last week's lesson was one I had the opportunity to teach twice, because the teacher for the evening class was away.  The previous lesson was on the Ten Commandments, and we looked at not just "The List" but the framework of how it was given.  This lesson I returned to that, to Exodus 19:3(b)-8: Thus shalt thou say to the house of Jacob, and tell the children of Israel;   4) Ye have seen what I did unto the Egyptians, and how I bare you on a eagles’ wings, and brought you unto myself.   5) Now therefore, if ye will a obey my voice indeed, and keep my b covenant , then ye shall be a c peculiar d treasure unto me above all people: for all the earth is mine:   6) And ye shall be unto me a a kingdom of b priests , and an c h...

Kitchen adventures

Image
The kitchen here is as old as the house, I don't think it's ever been updated.  Oh, finally found the age of the house--1902!  So maybe the kitchen had the enameled sink section later than that, but that would be it.  I would guess that that portion might be as old as the '30's, and no later than the early '50's. the indispensable kitchen helper   Meet my new best friend-- a rolling step stool.  Everything is high, the ceiling is 8' 8" and the cabinets go all the way up.  Even my 6' 8" brother-in-law would have to stand on his toes here.  This is the type of stool that our library has; it rolls easily on casters, but locks into place when you put weight on it.  I can't quite dribble it like a soccer ball, but I can nudge it along with a foot if my hands are full.  It's a lifesaver--but I am still hard pressed to reach the very top shelves.  There is only one cupboard which I would consider to be at a normal height.  I have my...

Making adjustments

Sorry this space has been vacant for so many days.  I didn't die and forget to give notice, honest.  There's been a lot going on, I was sick, and the phone transfer didn't work, hmmm.  Well, it worked for a couple of hours and then went dead, dead, dead, even from the outside box, and they had to order someone to repair it.  Those are the things that have kept me away. Almost everything that is coming over is here, but not quite.  The things that still have to be gone through are problem stuff, but we have been actually here for a week, and getting adjusted.  Once the bed is moved, home is the place where you go to sleep and wake up and eat breakfast. This is a funny little old house.  The floor is not even, I am learning the dips and rises as I move from the entry to the living room to the dining room, and on.  There is a slope upwards into the living room, and a small depression, if I hit it just right, at that end of the dining room--it's j...
