Loving Father
I thought that I might have something which would arise out of class today as a follow-up to the last post, tying into that marvelous vision, but I got sick last night and was not able to teach today. Luckily there is another teacher, a brother who does the same lessons for a Thursday evening class, so I called him and asked him to fill in. I would like to come back to section 138 sometime, but it will have to be another day, though I am much improved.
Our next course, the Doctrine and Covenants now being done, is the Old Testament. Sometimes we concentrate on other books of scripture, (any other, help, when confronted with it), but I guess we shouldn't. I get to be challenged too. Joseph Smith taught us that the Jehovah of the Old Testament is in fact Jesus Christ. Through all the ages, he has been the intermediary for us. In church Sunday, one of the speakers said that sometimes we envision the compassionate Jesus with his Father sternly in the background, "but everything the Savior did was to show how much our Father loves us." Everything. Jesus said that in all things he did that which he had seen his Father do.
The love and mercy Jehovah offers over and over again, are the real love and care of both our Heavenly Father and his Only Begotten. When the Savior lamented, "How often would I have gathered you as a hen gathers her chicks," that was not just the people of Jerusalem in his present day, but of so many down through the ages. "But you would not."
Come to me, follow me, he would plead, so that he might heal our hurts, overcome our sins, and bring us to joy. He pleads, and his arms are stretched out still.
