Mother's Day

This was my first Mother's Day as a fully long-distance mother.  I looked at the missionary dinner calendar last week and noticed that this Sunday didn't have anybody signed up to feel the elders, so I took the opportunity.  It seemed like it would be a very happy day to offer them dinner, when they got to talk to their families and we could hear all about them.

We have two sets of elders right now, and when Hubby asked which ones we were getting, I told him, "the diggers."  These two have come twice to dig up space for us to plant a garden, and I got to show them what we've done so far.  I cannot dig up the space or do much, but I can (I hope) tend it once it's done.  I asked the other two last evening at a family game night for the ward if they had someone to feed them, and they assured me they did.  We would be very full with all of them, but I bought the biggest chicken I think I've ever seen (6 lbs!) yesterday in case, and lots of asparagus.  I made the cornmeal rolls that are my Thanksgiving standard, and offered pear jam, which was received so enthusiastically that I sent the small jar home with them.  They promised to return the jar, and I don't think it will take long until it's empty.

Hubby cut up a cantaloupe so that we had fruit salad, so we had a good dinner.  I was going to make a cake--single layer not frosted but sauce poured over it--but decided to keep it simple, so we just had brownies and a scoop of ice cream.

They've been terrific, the work is wonderful, and we got to be a small part of their happy day.  As bedtime approaches, each of my daughters has called, two with promises to call at greater length tomorrow because it was late, and I got to call my mom.  I have two boys that I hope think about me occasionally too, but it's been a full day.  I still have to work on a lesson on Jeremiah, about 24 chapter's worth, and we have put a group together for tomorrow night (family home evening) to go see the movie "Son of God," which we've seen and recommend.  TTFN!

  1. There's a certain single son of mine who's been known to receive a nudge of a text message from siblings, going, Didja call Mom?
